Saturday 10 June 2017 Mykonos and Delos
Set the alarm for this morning as it was going to be an early start. Arrived in Mykonos new port sometime in the early hours of the morning. Sleep was a little restless for me as this is the first time I have slept on a boat since I was 6. Dea says she slept really well as she managed to get the pillows okay to be comfortable with her back.
Breakfast at 7 and then off to Delos the ancient cultural centre of the Cycliads. Dea’s not joining me today as it’s not her thing and her back may not be up to all the walking I think we are going to have to do. Seabus to the old port and then a tour boat out to the island of Delos, about 30 minutes sailing.
Met by our guide Antonious, very knowledgeable and entertaining. Spent about hour and a half looking around some very extensive and well preserved Greek ruins. A great history lesson and great stories. I love the Greek myths.
As you can see the sky is a beautiful blue and there’s very little shade, and it was very good to get back on the tour boat and find some shade.
Back to the boat for lunch and a ‘nanna’ nap for me, about 2 and half hours.
We need to find our own dinner in town tonight, I reckon this is great idea as it helps the local community get some outside income. There’s plenty of places to choose from and there’s a lot of people around tonight. Apparently there are three weddings in town this weekend and at least one is for someone rich and possibly famous. There’s a lot of those really big personal yachts in the new port, probably explains why we had to dock in the old port.
Found a nice place, they are all nice, but this one had soft chairs for Deas back.
I ordered a mixed seafood grill and Dea swordfish. Mine was big enough to feed my whole family and Deas swordfish cutlet was bigger than some schnitzels we had. Both of us had trouble getting through it and left quite a bit. Didn’t see any famous people.
After tea the sun is going down and everybody heads off to Little Venice to watch the sunset. A very romantic place and time as saw one poor bloke become so overcome with the romance he got down on his knee and proposed to his girlfriend. Word is she accepted.
Back to the boat and off to Santorini.
