Monday 26 to Tuesday 27 June 2017 Vienna

This morning as we’re going to pass through our first lock journey. We’ve been told we’ll soon get bored of all the locks

There’s two places on board to have lunch, a light lunch in the lounge or a A La Carte lunch in the restaurant at the pointy end of the ship. There’s also a fancy restaurant at the blunt end called the Cooks’ Table Restaurant and this is by invitation only for dinner. We’ve been invited tomorrow night and Saturday. It’s almost formal dress for this one.

Around 1 pm we arrive in Vienna, the city of music. After lunch in the lounge we decide to take the tour bus to the Albertina Platz and we are going to wander around on our own for a couple hours. It’s another warm day. We thought we’d have a coffee and cake (Sacher-Torte) at the famous Sacher Cafe but the line was too long to get in. We had coffee and cake at another cafe, probably a lot cheaper than Sacher. A walk up the mall and a little shopping and then around the Abertina Platz for a photo shoot before the bus comes and picks us up to return to the ship.

Early tea tonight as we have been invited to a private concert by the Viennese Imperial Orchestra at the Liechtenstein City Palace. Have to get a little dressed up for this. There’s champagne on our arrival in a reception room that’s bigger than my house and then off to a night of classical music in the main music room. A great night.

The next morning, Tuesday, we decide not to do the Freedom of Choice tours as Dea’s back is still needs some rest. We decide to go back to the Platz and pick up a Hop-on Hop-off bus to get a good look at the main highlights of the town. It’s even warmer today. We made it to the entertainment park and Dea’s back was causing too much grief in the bus. We had a coffee in the park and worked out the best way back to the ship. It was only a couple of stops away.

Rest up for the rest of the afternoon as we’ve got our fancy dinner tonight. Well after I had a go on the pushbikes the boat provides. I rode from one end of the dock to the other but unfortunately there was no-one to take pictures.

Get all dressed up and off to the Chef’s Table Restaurant for the privileged few. We joined Trevor and Moira Hill at their table. We had a good time with some great food and special service. But the night ended far too early as Dea started to have stomach issue due to the painkillers the doctor had prescribed in Budapest.
