Friday 30 June 2017 Regensburg
No need to wake up early this morning as not much is going to happen until about 10:30am. We’re in Bavaria so we have to have Frühshoppen, an alcoholic drink before midday in company, consisting of wheat beer and Weisswurst. I don’t drink beer but the local wines good and so is the Weisswurst.
We arrive in Regenburg about midday. We thought this was where we were going to buy the toy carousels for friends back in Oz, so the Phil Hoffman escort, Rosalie, offered to purchase them for us. I decide to have a quick look around this quaint little town and have coffee and cake.
Dea went off with the slow walkers tour but ended up bailing out as the guide was talking too much and not walking fast enough and went off on her own.
When we got back to the boat we realize this is not the place to buy the carousel but in Rudesheim, all these German town names sound the same to me. When Rosalie returns and says she couldn’t find any carousels we have to buy her a glass of French Champagne to apologise for getting the town wrong.
All back on board about 4 pm and the ship sails toward Nuremburg. As of tonight the sun deck will be closed for 5 days as we will be entering the Main Danube Canal and the bridges and locks are going to be at minimum height.
The end of the first week on this fantastic adventure and the last we see of the Danube river.
