Friday 9 June 2017 Greece

Arrived in Athens yesterday at about 6 pm after two flights from Venice. Pretty uneventful other than finding our tickets didn’t include checked luggage whilst checking in. €100,00 later and we where on our way. Security at the Venice airport was tight, our bags were searched as well as x-rayed.

Our driver was waiting for us at the airport, this is the one thing of this trip has been excellent. A 40 min drive to our hotel in the heart of Athens. Imagine my surprise when we were given a upgrade to a suite, one of their best rooms.

Went to the recommended, by the hotel receptionist, restaurant for a really good meal and then back to the hotel and bed.

Today we get taken to our boat for the Greek Island cruise for 7 days.

Not sure what the internet is going to be like so you may not hear from me until we get back to Athens.

Internet is not very good, so I have had to buy a data pack with my Global Sim. Which means I’m only going to have internet when in port.

Got picked up by our driver at 10:30am which was 1/2 hour early and a twenty to thirty minute drive to the port. We’re very early like 3 hours early and no facilities at the port to wait around. We found a cafe overlooking the harbour and enjoyed coffee and cake. Dea bought a string bracelet from one of the many vendors that come around and annoy you to buy something. There are guys selling pens and batteries!

I need a hat and we need some sunscreen to take with us. All the other hats have been left behind as they don’t fit well in the suitcases. Dea’s really struggling with her back so I go for a walk to find these items. I’ve got 2 hours. Sunscreen was easy but hats. It appears as though Greek men don’t wear hats because I cant find any. A long walk along the harbour admiring the very expensive boats but can only see cafes and restaurants for the first 2 kilometres. Find a pharmacy for sunscreen and a store for a hat for Dea but spent at least 30 minutes looking for a hat for myself. Eventually found an army disposal and was able to buy a cap. Now the 2 kilometre walk back. Dea’s been pestered all this time by vendors and is not very happy.

Another coffee and some cake and it’s time to board the boat.

Very nice staff and the boats looks good. Hand over your passports to ensure your not wanted terrorist or something. Meet a few of the other 35 passengers, half a dozen Aussies, some English, a couple of Americans and a few Europeans.

Shown to our rooms, a little small but okay. Retrieve our life jackets and back to the lounge for a safety briefing from the Captain and an overview of how things are going to work from the cruise coordinator. And we’re on our way.
