Thursday 15 June 2017 Hydra

A nice pleasant cruise towards Hydra this afternoon. This is our last full day on the cruise, tomorrow we will be back in Athens all going our own ways.

As we approach the harbour we’re told the docking places are full so we are going to have to anchor at sea and be tendered in. A little disappointed as we were told the only place we wouldn’t be docking was Santorini. A few water taxi come out to meet us to take us into the harbour. They don’t look very easy to get into from the back of our boat as they are bobbing all over the place and Dea’s not to sure about this. With some encouragement from Stella she managed to get on board. A quick trip to the harbour and we are in Hydra Town.

Hydra Port

We are here mainly for tea as we are not getting any on the boat tonight. We find a nice little café and have a Mixed Grill to share. The meat patties are just like the ones you make at home for BBQs even have tomato sauce.

Nice little restuarant/cafe in Hydra Port

After tea go for a short walk around the town before our taxi take us back to the boat.

Dea did a little shopping and I just waited outside. One of the interesting things to be found on most Greek Islands are the cats. They are everywhere. Some even appear to be peoples pets. One man came out of a shop and whistled and a white cat jumped up from sleeping on a doorstep to follow him.

The place is full of cats

Hydra has no cars on the island so they best way to get around is by donkey. It looked a little too bouncy for Dea and I so we just took this photo.

The only way to get around Hydra

During tea an important person walks by with a large security entourage and get on his really big boat and leaves. Stella then tells us that our boat can now dock. Geez I didn’t think there was anyone more important than us. 8 pm and we’re back on the boat heading to Athens.

Loved Hydra just busy enough to be interesting without the crowds.

As we’re heading off to Athens with a clear sky we had an amazing view of sunset.

The boat will dock in Athens about 2 am and we will be off by 8:30 am. We’re going to miss the friends we’ve made on the boat. Mainly Dash and his girls, Justine, Anne and Lisa from Melbourne.
