Wednesday 14 June 2017 Monemvasia

Today is going to be another short day in one place as this afternoon we will be heading off to our next port. Monemvasia is a little island that is connected to the mainland via a causeway and bridge. The old township which dates back to when the Venetian ran this part of the world is on the island and the new town is on the other side of the causeway.

It’s a short bus ride up to the gates of the town and then an uphill walk to the main square. A really quaint little place where the streets are narrow and maze like, apparently to thwart attacks by pirates. It is possible to climb to the fort on top of the hill in the centre of the island, but i went for the option of walking down to the sea. This led me to a few dead-end as I think I ended up in someone’s home.

It was really hot here and the close quarters of the streets didn’t help. I found Dea wandering around the shops looking for souvenirs and we had a coffee and cake break in a little cafe in the shade. The cafe had a dog that look almost identical to our Chloe. The island is awash with cats, their everywhere.

Caught the bus back after about 90 minutes wandering around. We had to get our own lunch today so I wandered over to the new town and found a cafe/restaurant on the beach. Dea decided to stay on the boat. Her appetite has waned some on the new painkillers.

A glass of white wine (no red by the glass) served in an anodised aluminium beaker to pour into a glass, a bowl of bread with olive oil and a chicken breast main course, €10.

Off to see if I can find a loose top or dress for Dea. The first shop I come to has exactly what she asked for, the shop owner even put one on to show me the size, and I bought it. Now that’s how shopping is done ladies. Took all of two minutes and most of that was waiting for the machine to accept my credit card. Got back to the boat and my purchase was a winner with all the ladies on board.

Left port about 1:30 pm and headed of to Nafplion
