Wednesday 5 July 2017 Rudenshiem and Andernach
Today is going to be a good and a not so good day. First the good.
We catch the little train to Rüdensheim to buy the carousels for John and Trudy. We’ve got the right town this time. We get dropped off in front of Siegfried’s Musical Cabinet, a museum of mechanical music instruments. Check out the gift shop alongside but can’t find exactly what were after. I send a photo to John of something similar and phone him and it’s exactly what he wants. We buy two for John and Trudy.
Time for coffee and cake. You just gotta have a Rudenshiemer coffee.
20ml brandy is poured into a special mug and set on fire, then doused with hot coffee, then topped with whipped cream and chocolate flakes. You drink it with a straw. The first sip is a doosey, but it gets a lot better as you go.
Dea decides she wants to walk back to the ship and I decide to join Trevor and Moira on the gondola ride up to the Germania monument. Great views from up there.
Back to the boat and meet Dea there.
Now the not so good.
I’ve had to make the decision we are not going to continue past Paris due to Dea’s sore back. Neither of us are enjoying this as much as we would like. Dea’s not happy about this decision and neither am I really but it needs to be made. I start making arrangement to go home.
Back to the good .
Tonight we’re off to have dinner with a princess in her castle. The ship needs to head for Andernach.
On the way we see a few of the 46 castles to be found on this section of the Rhine river.
As Trevor says, “Not ABC!” ( another bloody castle, church or cathedral)
Off for dinner with a little bit of culture thrown in. One of the students at the castles music school plays the piano for us between courses.
